Hi,
Recently got a new boat (Hereschoff 28) and in poking around found that there is no breather off the fuel tank, just a 10mm hole in top of tank! Any suggestions on best position to put breather. Cheers |

Is this a gasoline tank or a diesel tank ???????????
For diesel just a vent to the side deck and as high as possible (such as through the side of the deck house ... covered with a small vent cowl.. For gasoline it should be definitely -outboard of the hull- so that the vapors 'drain' to the water instead of back into the boat, .... usually at the stern AND the opening should be covered with a finemesh stainless steel screen to prevent flame propagation down through the vent line into the tank .... and covered with a small cowl. A gasoline tank vent without a 'flame arrestor' in the vent line is a BOOOOOM waiting to happen. OK - for diesel also consider to add a desiccant air filter on the vent
line to adsorb water vapor when the tank 'breathes' ... will prevent water condensation and premature aging of the fuel. You can get these cannisters from an air compressor supplier. They contain silica gel with a bit of colored silica gel that turns from blue to pink when saturated with water and need to be regenerated .... and then simply put the gel in an oven at 350 deg. for 6 hours to regenerate. Then you dont have to keep a full tank of diesel fuel. Diesel only has a shelf life of about 6 months at 30 deg. C ... so the less you store the less will go 'bad' and the less problems youll have with particles, fungus growth, blocked filters, etc. etc. etc. etc. In article .com, MC wrote: Diesel, sorry forgot to mention that.
