Default my new alternator is 194 degrees,..

The cowling is pretty close to the front of the engine
so I don't see how it's going to get much ventilation.

FWIW I know people who have mounted small fans in the engine
compartment, focused directly on the alternator, with the result being
marked decrease in temps of the unit.

Eggcellent, I'm looking at some of the 12v pc fans now. It just seems
like you would be blowing hot air at it though as there's really no
source of ventilation. If you could duct cool air from the bilge or
outside somewhere,..
It does sound easier than gearing up for my new seawater cooled copper
tube surround water jacket solution. Nowhere near as daring though.

YES! Let's put a 30 amp fan on the alternator, one of those boost fans
from a car air conditioner!!

OH, wait....er, ah, that extra 30A has to come from the alternator,
dropping our 70A charge to 40A initially.....hmm....maybe we could switch
it on after the battery charging current drops...when we won't need it,
anyway.

Yecch....(shudder)

IS IT EXPLOSION PROOF?!! I think NOT!...a much more important question.
