Default Today's special find....

Cruising my favorite thrift shops, dumpster diving for fun to reduce the
boredom, I stumbled upon a perfectly good-working Garmin GPSMAP 185S
GPS/Chartplotter/Sounder, with its power/sonar/data cable and black fuzzy
sun cover but no antenna ($59) or transducer (varies) for the princely sum
of $5 "untested". I fought long and hard trying to walk away from it, but
couldn't. I was intrigued by a couple of process stickers that said MAHRTA
26-MAY-06 on the back that have barcodes on them. Anyone know what that's
about?? Well, I'm off to Lionheart in the morning to test it out on
Lionheart's GPS185 antenna and transducer to make sure it all works before
ordering at least the new type of GPS antenna for it so I can use it in my
van until I find it a home. I'll have to order the mounting bracket, too.
The knobs were on it but the donor must have kept the bracket. Too bad he
kept the antenna. We hunted the thrift shop storage area for it and
they'll keep looking for me, but I'm not encouraged.

It's running on my shop 12V supply for the last 7 hours just fine in
simulator mode. The Simulator shows me about 80 miles off Jacksonville,
now, still headed for some exotic island. There's some more fish down
about 80' going by, now.

Not a bad day's catch fishing, I'd say.....(c; I paid $8 for the brand new
Reebok sneakers I don't think anyone had their foot in. I'm 2 for 2!

Works great! Damn it's cold on the docks. Riding the electric scooter to
J-dock froze my face, the only part exposed. It's just turned 40 on my
thermometer in the computer shack.

Guess I'll order the new GPS antenna....ta.

Maybe you could find the guy it was "borrowed" from and get his
antenna. I have a problem with buying stuff that smells like it was
stolen.

The thrift shop it was purchased from uses a fleet of box trucks to
retrieve whatever is in the store from donations at homes across the 3
county area. I doubt, seriously, your fears of its origin.

Some rich sailor just got a new color GPS chartplotter to replace the one I
got.....and I thank him for his donation to the Kidney Foundation. They
even take cars and have a sales lot after the cars are repaired and
restored to running and safe condition....
