Chart Plotters
Hey everyone,
I am looking for a good chart plotter for my boat. I do not have a lot of space left at the helm so one that can be mounted with a suction cup and does not take up a lot of space would be ideal. It does not have to be color (especially since I am not planning on spending more than a few hundred dollars) but I would like it to have all of the standard functions and be easy to use. Any input from anyone would be appreciated. Thanks Frank Skipper of the cruise "Miss Vonn" |

Garmin 176 is about $500 or less (plus charts) if you search the Web. I put
a 4 conductor oputlet out at the helm which supplies power to the GPS to conserve batteries and sends the output to the autopilot and VHF. I have been very happy with the setup. We bought a NAVMAN and are very happy with it. They do
come in a B/W version that is cheaper. Doug s/v Callista "Frank Taylor, Jr." wrote in message ... Hey everyone, I am looking for a good chart plotter for my boat. Garmin 185 is a nice old unit. See if you can find one on ebay. We
use ours for backup to the Raymarine color radar/chartplotter. Takes regular C-maps (2) to get detail. You also get a good charting sonar with dual zoomed screens in the process...... Don't pay retail. That's crazy..... On Sat, 4 Oct 2003 17:13:13 -0400, "Frank Taylor, Jr." wrote: Hey everyone, I am looking for a good chart plotter for my boat. Garmin... Their product, especially the BlueChart technology, is
superior and their customer support and service is second to none. |

I don't know about Garmin WRT chartplotters, but we bought a NAVMAN
5500 that performed flawlessly from the Bay to the Bahamas and back until just a couple months ago. Called their tech support number, got a human on the line within a minute, determined that it was not a human error problem, returned the unit to them, and had a brand new unit back within a week. Very nice unit! Doug s/v Callista "Messing In Boats" wrote in message ... Garmin...
