Default Painting wind vane

Hi, I have recently bought second hand a wind direction and speed unit
for the top of the mast. Its the normal boack plastic stuf and going a
bit white and powdery with the sun. Any ideas on painting it with
something to protect it and keep the surface plastic intact?
Thanks

Painting an unknown plastic can sometimes do more harm than good as the
solvents in the paint may cause the plastic to stress relieve itself
into crumbling powder. At the very least, test a small spot with the
paint you want to use. Let it sit for a couple week and observe
carefully.

If it were me, I would coat the enclosure with epoxy as a barrier coat
and then paint. I use porch and deck polyurethane for projects like
this and get good service out of it.

I wouldn't paint it. Chances are that you will cause more harm than good.
Wind direction vanes and anemometer cups are built and balanced to provide
accurate information. Painting them will change the performance of the
devises. Providing you with inaccurate data. Since they are at the top of
the mast where vary few will ever see them. Don't bother to paint them,
just use them. Besides if that concerned about how they look then contact
the manufacturing co. for suggestions and or exchanges.
