Default Radar Furuno 1623

With my eye on it's automatic zone-larm I am planning on installing a
Furuno 1623.
Some time ago I have read somewhere that users drilled a hole in the
fot of the dome in order to let condensed water pass. Anyone here with
experience regarding this allteration? Or with experience with
problems due to condensed water?

Fair winds,
Len.

My JRC and Raymarine radars both had drain holes in the bottom of the
raydome. Are you saying the Furuno base has no drain hole? I would think
its there somewhere.

Default Radar Furuno 1623

I have a Furuno 1623 for years. I use it mainly in the Bay of Fundy where
the fog gets like peas soup.
I never had any problem with this Furuno Radar.
The 1623 Furuno has a drain tube (about 1 1/2 long) located at the bottom of
the radome antenna.
When you install the mounting plate for the radome antenna you have to make
four holes to match the base and one hole to accommodate the drain tube.
When you drill the hole for the draining tube make sure it is in line with
the tube. When you sit the antenna base on the mounting plate you have to
ensure that the drain tube is threaded through the hole in the mounting
plate without any blockage, twisting, sharp bents or cuts. Do not leave the
draining tube flat between the antenna base and the mounting plate and
tighten the anchor bolts.
Here winter is very cold and get way below zero. At the end of the sailing
season I remove the radar and its antenna and store them in my house.
