What is a useful tv-satellite dish on board?
We live on board our sloop and we're leaving for an unknown period
(grin). We would like to have sat-tv on board for one or maybe two hours a week watching. We feel no real urge to buy this KVH Trackvision dish mushroom for many thousands. Anyone here with end-user experience with a system that manages to keep a reasonable connection at anchor but which is a bit cheaper? Thanks and fair winds, Len. |

We have a regular Dish Network dish aboard. If you toss a stern and bow anchor, and swing and bob less than 11 degrees it works well. Joe |

What is a useful tv-satellite dish on board?
Len... I've been seriously considering the type of application that Joe has on his boat. One of my dock neighbors has his satellite dish on a rod holder that is mounted on the rear transom rail. When he goes out for a day sail... he just takes it off and along with the feed line stows it on his dock. My boat is quite small as well... so I will be doing the same thing... or stow it on the aft berth while under way along with all the other junk. (smile) Since I will be using DirectTV... I may just get one of their vendor's all in one TV sets. It's a 20" LCD with Direct's receiver built in. Just one less external component to deal with. Here is the vendor's web site which shows this unit: http://www.humaxusa.com/index_1.html Fortunately (as Joe pointed out) conditions at my marina and slip are usually very stable... so signal loss and/or adjusting shouldn't be an on going problem. Check out http://www.raysat.com/ . Their product will track satellites
while on the move. Don't know the price, but I am considering it for my catamaran. I understand that they have an Internet capable dish in development. "Len" wrote in message ups.com... Thank you all for responding.
Islander, Have you used track-it-tv yourself or have you heared about experiences at anchor? Fair winds, Len. |

It works fine at anchor, or even underway. Will lose signal if you're rolling a lot, but in calm conditions it's great. Very hard rain will also cause you to lose signal, but that's a function of the dish, not the Track-it system. |

We've got a regular DirectTV dish/service and a follow-me antenna, and it works well at anchor. We don't use it at the dock because the boat doesn't move that much at dock. Usually we can aim it at a new dock by looking at the other sat-dishes in the marina and seeing which way they are pointing. We move the tuners back and forth between the house and the boat - we just leave the sat-dish in place at the house when we are gone. |

Odd - I can't see my original reply? (But I guess you can).
I've not got one - used to be called "Follow me TV", a relatively cheap solution, seems to only track in the horizontal but should be OK at anchor. I'm keeping an eye on prices and might get this if still so much cheaper than the alternatives. Cheers. "Len" wrote in message oups.com... Thank you all for responding.
