Which "smart" regulator?
Glenn:
I have a Balmar MaxCharge regulator. It is easy to program and does what it is supposed to do. If your alternator is in a tight engine box and prone to overheating like mine is, get the optional alternator temperature probe. It will reduce charging current when the alternator gets too hot. David |

Which "smart" regulator?
The Xantrex is actually a Balmar MC 412. Xantrex bought the design from
Balmar. It is an excellent regulator. "Glenn Ashmore" wrote in message ... I guess you have figured out by now that I am working on the charging system. Now I need some practical experience with 3 stage regulators. The top candidates are the Balmar Max Charge, Xantrex and the Ample Power Next Step. Others that may be considered include the Aqualine, Mastervolt Alpha and , Charles C-Charge. I am leaning towards the Ample Power but only because they seem to offer more data on their products. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about any of them? -- Glenn Ashmore I'm building a 45' cutter in strip/composite.
