searay 180 bowrider 3.0
My Searay 180 Bowrider 3.0 Mercruiser blows the ignition circuit fuse when I put it into gear. With a new fuse, it starts right up but the fuse blows again when put into gear.
What's the problem? I understand from the dealer that there is a switch in the ignition circuit connected to the gear linkage that momentarily interrupts the ignition circuit to allow for easier shifting, and that this switch has a very sensitive adjustment. Any ideas? Thanks, Ken |

I am having the exact same problem with my Sea Ray 185. I was crusing on the lake and the boat went dead. I checked the fuse box and the ignition fuse was blown. I put another one and as soon as I tried to start the same issue happened. I looked all over for a short circuit or any messed up cable but could not find anything. the boat has less than a year and I have not done anything to it... like adding a new radio or any electrical thing. I will try to take to the dealer but they may take some time to fix it since there is a big waiting list...
I have been looking all over for a troubleshooting guide.. any ideas? |

Swapped out the RUSTY stator in my Sea Rayder F16XR2's 150hp Mercury Sport Jet and the fuses quit blowing. When the soft iron core is eaten by the water it ISN'T PROTECTED AGAINST, it swells a pile of rust...shorting out the turns, eventually. When I replaced it with an aftermarket stator, I coated the new stator in heavy axle grease, especially on the surface pointing to the whirling magnets in the flywheel. The grease will level off but not peel off, keeping the core separated from the OCEAN trying to eat it. Charged battery much better....had really PAINFULLY HOT spark!....stopped sputtering and would even idle, a 2-stroke magic trick! Pull the flywheel and see how much of the crap stator is left that's not rotted away.....Curse Brunswick, again, for its cheap design..... -- ----- Larry Sea Ray....the expensive Bayliner! |

Problem started last year and appears to happen when motor is warm/hot. Still no answers or diagrams which help. Seems like when I put in gear it dies. Keeping lots of fuses on had and trying to have fun, Calling the dealer this week. Let me know if anyone finds out anything. |
