Low voltage lighting on boat question
Hi,
on or in boats those lamps are not used often, as I know. Most bulbs on ships habe other sockets, some of them are very special. Halogen bulbs with that MR 16 socket are rather good for ship lightening, special inside a boat. They give a lot more light than conventional light bulbs. I´m using them for lightning the cabin, for reading lamps.... There are adapters availible, that fit modern MR16 bulbs into older sockets, but I think, changing the whole lamp will be best solution. Wattage depends on use of the lamp. High wattage means decharging batteries in a hurry. 20 watts will be enough for most lightning inside the boat. Very interesting are light bulbs using LED technology, fitting into that MR 16 socket. They consume low power, habe a very long lifetime, but they are rather expencive. Low voltage lighting on boat question
Soluxlamps wrote in message ... are 12 volt MR16 bulbs used on (or in) boats (yachts) very often. If so, what wattage is usually used... 20 watt, 35 watt, 50 watt?? I've replaced all 'traditional' lights with MR16 halogen fittings bought from my local DIY store. Many fewer amps per lux. 20w for reading spots used at about 1m range; 35w for reading spots used at 2m, and 50w for saloon and galley floodlights. However, I note that most chandleries sell fittings which take the small two pin bulbs. Yes they're smaller, and a lot more expensive. Surprise. Low voltage lighting on boat question
Jim B.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question about low-voltage (MR16) bulbs on boats. If anyone that uses MR16 bulbs on their boat is interested in improving the presentation (color and appearance), please contact me. We have developed a bulb that is being used in art galleries and museums and now by interior designers for room lighting. Thanks again. Philip Bradfield, Ph.D. VP-Tailored Lighting Inc.
