Default GPS EPIRB issues

Looks like some of the GPS EPIRBs and PLBs don't work right:

Apparently West Marine has stopped selling McMurdo stuff.

Wow, what a copmprehensive test and some surprisingly bad results for some
models. Up til now I have regretted buying an ACR RpaidFix that needs external
GPS input, but it sure did well in the tests so I am happy now.

McMurdo has issued two Dealer Advisories and a Press Release with
regards this issue and they have now announced to their dealers an
upgrade program, the details and effectiveness of which are still
sketchy.
