According the C-MAP instructionbook, the conditions for the GPS talker a
4800 baud
8 data bits without parity
2 stopbits!!!!!
I.m.o. almost every GPS talker uses 1 stopbit
So what to do ?

Add another stop bit?

You could also try 8 bit with parity and one stop bit, at least the number
of bits would be right
