Default Depth (fish) finder Color vs. Black and Gray

Looking for a good locator to help me fish in 1-30 foot depths. I was
at the local fishing store last night and liked the color screen due
to the fact that there was no glare. You could view it from any
angle. (I should of brought my Polarized in to see if there is a
difference.) But if you go color its more expensive, you loose on the
pixel count, and the transducers are different. I'm not sure what the
different transducers will do for me. I'm looking at Lowrance X-125
and the X-100c.

If you have any informatin on locators and transducers that may aid in
my understanding this piece of equipment better, before I buy a
locator, would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm not an expert, but I have and use a few of these. I think the most
important point is that fish finders used for fishing need to be quite
different than those used for mapping and general safety. Narrow angle
transducers show bottom details quite well, but the chances of a fish being
in the beam range from slim to none. Personally, I think that issue is far
more important than color vs. bw displays.

I use a simple "Fishing Buddy" 1200 for fishing. That uses both bottom (I
think) and side firing (I'm sure) transducers so you can point it at the
area of interest. I use this to look forward at areas I'm interested
before casting. So far, (got it last year), it's really been helpful. I
use it in a canoe with a small electric trolling motor. Much better than
the larger unit I have in a runabout. It's a battery operated unit - 3 c
cells, I think, which is a bit of a pain, but it finds fish better than
anything I've tried so far.

I've also got (given as a Christmas gift last winter), one of the units
where you cast it out and the readout is a wrist watch, but haven't used it
yet.
