Default SAT Nav phone set up

A friend and I are hoping to attempt to set up his SAT Nav phone on his boat
by our own selves. He wants it connected to his PC so he can send photo's
back home as he cruises. (Yes, he's aware of the cost which is not much a
concern to him.)

? Is there anything special that needs our attention as we proceed? Power
and data wires seem pretty straightforward but I concerned about what we
don't know. Thanks in advance!

A few details would be helpful, for instance, do you have a USB or serial
port on your PC? What type of Sat phone? What op system on the PC? If
windows, what version? Have you checked with the phone maker? Some sell
phones and kits to connect sat phones to pc's. For some really neat
technical stuff, check out http://www.gpsphones.com

Peter Pan:

I know better than to leave out the details. Sorry.

It's a new XP Panasonic system w/ both USB and serial ports. The phone is
the Iridium 9505 Motorola (I still don't think I'll ever recover my losses
w/ Motorola stock after last year.) combo w/ docking station.

Thanks for URL. It does have some good sales info but what I'm looking for
here is user experience and insights on installation pit falls.

Cheers,
Bob

Specifically for that model phone (not the base) they have a detail page at
http://outfittersatellite.com/iridium.htm

From the quick read, they talked about "The internet access is 2400 bps
(direct dial circuit switched) or 10,000 bps* with compression"
Since they say that, I would assume that it can obviously be done, and by
writing/calling them, you may be able to find out exactly what you need.

Sorry, I use a different phone tied to a laptop, for voice and internet
wherever I go (land sea or air), rather than a limited (may be a bad choice
of words, but I don't know what to call it) marine install only.

For what it's worth, go for it. I have something similar and love it.

PS, if your friend is into disaster planning, check out the solar charger in
case of power failure (I highly recommend that, plane crashed, batts leaked,
and it ended up saving my life)
