New Marine Handheld with CG Auxilary Features
The new Standard Horizon Marine Radio HX-370S handheld radio has features of
interest to US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol, etc. It has 40 FCC part 90 (land mobile) dealer software programmable memory channels and covers the frequency range 137-174 Mhz. This includes the 2 meter ham bands. It includes CTCSS and selectable 5 HZ or 2.5 KHz channels. It meets the new 2.5 ppm stability requirement for CG Auxiliary and CAP. The only problems I see for CG Auxiliary/CAP use is there is not a direct external power jack and the receiver intermodulation is only 70 dB, not the 80 dB that the NTIA requires. However, it is the only thing on the market I know of that has this frequency range and is both marine and land mobile type approved. 73 Doug K7ABX, Assistant District Staff Officer-Communications (South), 13th District CG Auxiliary |

Or you could get a vertex vx-150 and mod the sucker. Takes about 5 minutes.

Also seem to remember seeing a new Icom in Marine Log that had similar features. Luckily we're a few years away from having to make those decisions. Good to see the market leaning that way already! The VX-150 is ham gear. The Auxiliary and CAP have been told in no uncertain
terms at the national level no more modified ham rigs on part 80 and Part 90 or NTIA controlled frequencies. I was one of those using a modified ham rig who got caught in the rigid new policy. I loved my Yaesu VX-7R but it is not allowed anymore. The HX-370S is a Vertex Standard Horizon product that meets type 80 and 90 and is operator proof for the average boater without a communications background. I hope this is just the first of many rigs coming out with the wide frequency range and type approvals. We need a 25 watt marine radio, not just handhelds. 73 Doug K7ABX "Falky foo" wrote in message m... Or you could get a vertex vx-150 and mod the sucker. Takes about 5 minutes. I've found several dealers with radios in stock, but none that know zip about the LMR feature! I'd love to be able to use it as a land based 2m handheld... 73's a KG4IJA |

It requires a programming cable, CT111, and software CE68. The alternate
cable I have used successfully is the CT-29/CT91 which is for the ham radio Yaesu VX-7R. Icom OPC478 can be used instead of the CT29. To clone from a programmed radio to another, use the CT32 clone cable. The CE68 software comes with detailed instructions on programming. The software prompts you how to turn on the radio in programming mode. The Owners manual with the radio explains how to clone. Contact me directly for more information. I own one of these handhelds and have it set up for local 2 meter ham repeaters. Doug K7ABX "a" wrote in message ... "Doug" wrote in message ink.net...
