Mick Americans are all brainwashed to the Federal Communications Commission being omnipotent, Mick. Are you sure it won't access that channel on its International mode of channels? I have an older HX255S I resurrected from the trash. It's my fav VHF walkie, now that it has massive Ni-Mh batteries in it....(c; |

As long as the licensee has the necessary authority to operate on the marine channel in question then there is no violation of the regulations. I picked up the HX350S up cheap on eBay and it is in mint condition with a good battery and microphone. It is the intrinsically safe model and gives excellent performance. If I program in the channel in question it will mean just carrying the one handset. Mick |

: Should have made myself a little clearer. The private channel would be one of the UK commercial marine channels. Mick On page 10 of the manual it says: "4.5 USA, CANADIAN AND INTERNATIONAL MODES 1. To change the mode of the transceiver, hold down the 16/9 key and press the WX key. The mode changes from USA, to International, to Canadian with each press. 2. “USA” appears on the LCD for the USA mode, “INTL” appears for International and “CAN” appears in Canadian mode. 3. Refer to marine channel charts in OWNER’S MANUAL SUPPLEMENT for allocated channels in each mode." Then, back in the channel charts it shows the channels the various modes provide. It also states: "4.15 SIMPLEX/DUPLEX CHANNEL USE All channels are factory-programmed in accordance with FCC(USA), Industry Canada and International regulations. Mode of operation cannot be altered from simplex to duplex or vice-versa. Simplex or duplex mode is automatically activated, depending on the channel and whether USA, International or Canadian operating mode is selected. Refer to the channel charts in the OWNER’S MANUAL SUPPLEMENT." Which means it is what it is and can't be changed, I suppose....hard wired programming. The manual is online at: http://www.standardhorizon.com/downl...3&FileCatID=87 &FileName=hx350s.pdf&FileContentType=applicatio n/pdf (sorry for the wordwrapping this long URL) |

I have also got a Standard VM-3500E but just waiting for the programmer and software to do that one. Might seem a bit over the top to get a programmer to do the one set but as we are in a pretty remote area it would cost about half the price of the programmer in postal charges to a dealer plus their charges on top. I went out in the boat last night for the first time with the HX350S with me and was very impressed with the sensitivity of the receiver. Far better than my yaesu micromariner but that is getting rather long in the tooth. Mick |

Or you can copy the link location and paste it in at http://tinyurl.com to get the tiny url.
