Fugawi adds Navionics support (press release)
NORTHPORT SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF NEW
FUGAWI MARINE ENC VERSION 4.10 WITH NAVIONICS® SUPPORT Navigation Software Leader Ships New Software with Support for Award-Winning Charts TORONTO, Canada - Northport Systems, Inc., a leader in GPS mapping software and innovative GPS applications, announced today the availability of its new Fugawi Marine ENC™ version 4.10 software. Among the exciting enhancements to its feature set, the Fugawi software now offers full compatibility with award-winning Navionics® Gold+, Gold, Silver, and HotMaps® charts. This new functionality allows boaters to use a PC at the helm or below deck for planning, navigating, and monitoring their passage using the identical, industry-leading cartography that they have installed in their Navionics supported chartplotter. Designed for boaters who enjoy the flexibility of PC-based marine charting, Fugawi Marine ENC with Navionics support can be used as a primary navigation system or as a feature rich, but inexpensive, secondary navigation station below deck. Any boater who currently owns Navionics Gold+, Gold, Silver or HotMaps charts on Secure Digital (SD) or Compact Flash (CF) cards can utilize their existing charts in Fugawi Marine ENC version 4.10 using a Navionics Multi Card Reader. Once accessed through the powerful Fugawi Marine ENC interface, Navionics charts can be enhanced with a wealth of additional information. Enhancements to the Navionics data include: Fugawi Street Overlay™ of the USA which adds detailed street data to the Navionics chart; stunning 3D visualization of Navionics Gold charts, an added layer of millions of land place-names, as well as an added layer of over 25,000 marine services from the integrated MPC Boaters Directory of the USA. These overlays further enhance Navionics charts by making it easier for boaters to reference their position with 3D views, detailed streets, and on-shore businesses and landmarks. Fugawi Marine ENC users will also benefit from support for tides and currents display when using Navionics charts. "Northport is very excited to offer boaters worldwide chart coverage using Navionics award-winning cartography," said Robin Martel, president of Northport Systems. "With the addition of Navionics support, we have solved the problem of a single chart standard; users can now access charts for almost anywhere in the world from a single source - rather than dealing with a multitude of chart suppliers and chart formats." "Navionics is very pleased to have our cartography available to boaters who use PC-based systems," said Bob Moshiri, vice president of sales and marketing, Navionics. "With the powerful Fugawi Marine ENC platform, boaters who prefer using the PC as their primary navigation system or as a back-up to a dedicated chartplotter can benefit from Navionics' unrivaled accuracy, clarity and chart detail." In addition to support for Navionics charts, the powerful Fugawi Marine ENC software includes a number of unique and innovative features such as 3D chart visualization, GRIB weather overlays, an intuitive Chart Management Wizard and Automatic Identification System (AIS) support. The U.S. version of Fugawi Marine ENC includes over 500 NOAA ENC® coastal water vector charts, over 1000 NOAA RNC™ coastal water raster charts, and over 60 iENC inland waterway vector charts. It also supports traditional BSB 4 or earlier charts from MAPTECH® and NDI Digital Ocean®, as well as Softchart, USGS air photos, and even user-scanned paper charts. Whether used as a primary charting solution or as a secondary backup, Fugawi Marine ENC continues to deliver the navigation features boaters need at an unbeatable price. -30- About Northport Systems, Inc.: Established in 1995 in Toronto, Canada, Northport Systems, Inc. now supplies products to over 130 countries.
