Raymarine Gyro
Greetings!
Has anyone in this NG experience with the Raymarine Gyroplus Yaw Sensor, used with the older model 100 course computer? Is it worth while, i.e. is there a significant performance improvement? Wout |

@lust.ihug.co.nz: Greetings! Has anyone in this NG experience with the Raymarine Gyroplus Yaw Sensor, used with the older model 100 course computer? Is it worth while, i.e. is there a significant performance improvement? Wout I have an S3 course computer to which I added an external GyroPlus. I had issues with external unit and the tech that I deal with offered to remove the gyro chip from the external unit and install it in the S3 for free. Once I did that, I had no problems. While I can't comment on using a model 100 (which is my old course computer, which I now store as a spare), I will say that I'm amazed at how well the gyro does in adjusting for wave action. I'd swear that someone was at the wheel sensing what's going on. You can watch the wheel get into a rythmic swinging motion to counter-act the sea state. I hate following seas on the quarter, but the gyro handles them very well. I'm a believer! -- Geoff |

According to the manual, and observed behaviour, it uses this input only when you set "response" to "3". So you do *NOT* get the same level of course-keeping as by replacing the 100 with a S1G. When you set response to 3 the course-keeping is absolutely wonderful, but you do get a very active steering behavior that uses a lot of amp-hours. I bought the gyro to get fast heading for the radar unit, so the better course keeping is just an added bonus for me. Still, if I had known about this I would probably have bought the S1G instead (as it does give you a backup computer for emergencies, as Geoff suggests). -- Kees |

If the improvement is as profound as it sounds, the USD600 for the external sensor is probably worth it. On the other hand, this is almost half way to a new S1G with AST. Decisions, decisions.. Thanks, Wout |

Raymarine Gyro
Could I ask what problem you were having with the gyro prior to putting the
gyro sensor into the course computer? I also had an issue that was solved the same way. Thanks "Geoff Schultz" wrote in message .. . "WBH" wrote in news:f72dli$g70$1 @lust.ihug.co.nz: Greetings! The fault light was coming on at the remote gyro, but the other status
lights seemed OK. -- Geoff "sw" wrote in : Could I ask what problem you were having with the gyro prior to putting the gyro sensor into the course computer?
