You recently (couple hours ago) had a derogatory comment about Fairfax
County Schools. How propitious that US News and World Report should come out with their 'Top 100' rankings on the same day. Check it out. Count how many are from Fairfax County (about a dozen). Then tell us how many are from Calvert County, or Prince George's County. http://tinyurl.com/63u655 -- John H. |

Oh look the #1 high school in the country is in Fairfax County. That school is filled with a bunch of social misfits. Back in the day before it turned all high tech and magnetic we used to beat Jefferson in just about everything. That school is filled with a bunch of very bright kids. They get only the cream of the crop from throughout the county. The students must apply, take a test, have transcripts reviewed, and get two of their teachers to write a recommendation for them. For us it was a pain in the butt. Very often we had to come up with nice ways to say the kid shouldn't be in TJ. We could check a little box saying that the application was to be kept private, but no one had a lot of confidence in that box. -- John H. |

The magnet schools in Montgomery County, MD at the middle school level hold almost mandatory social events throughout the school year. The purpose is to help these extremely bright but socially inept 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to develop their social skills and to get them off of their computers, out of their houses and interacting with others their age in social settings. By the time they reach high school they have matured a bit more and are outgoing enough to develop social circles. There are only three real magnet middle schools and each has a magnet population of about 450 students. |

I wish more of the bright ones would socialize with the A and B students, and not get sucked into the 'don't give a ****' crowd. -- John H. |

WAFA thinks that anything and everything that he doesn't have shouldn't be owned. He thinks that everything that he does have, or at least makes up a lie about, is the best there is! |
