Default Open ended fisheries (fish stocks)...

Don't know if any of you have been involved in the debate about the
replenishing the fish stocks and the ridiculous stance the RFA
(Recreational Fishing Alliance) has taken with their "Open Ended (some
call it Moving Target) Rebuilding" proposal.

Almost none of the national groups and about 80% of the state oriented
groups have opposed the RFA on this, but they've got some political
horsepower and when they start throwing PAC money around, its going to
get some attention.

Here's some views from both sides of the issue.

Group I am with used to be with RFA and we split because of RFA's stance. I
am still able to sit and have dinner and discuss fishing with the NorCal RFA
rep and that is after we had heated discussions about RFA's support of
FORMER Congressman Pombo.

I'm a long time member of RFA and it has become apparent to me at
least that there are some real morons running the show.

I honestly don't know how they can justify their stance on this in any
fashion.

It just doesn't make sense. The only thing I can think of is that
they've accepted some donations from manufacturers and are getting
pressured by them and by the commercial operaters like head boats and
the like.

A lot of the charter guys I've talked to about this over the past few
months are all for rebuilding and telling the RFA to cram it.
