Default The engine is fogged!

Yippee!

Removing the propeller allowed enough room to put one of the big
Rubbermaids containers below the lower unit. The container was high enough
so that when filled with water, the intakes were covered. Cranking the
engine and leaving it at idle didn't get water through the pee hole, but
when I revved it up to about 1400rpm the water flowed quite nicely.

So, I was able to let the engine run long enough to get the stabilized fuel
in the system. And, I was able to run it at fast idle to get the fogging
oil into the cylinders.

So, all is well. Thanks to those of you who offered advice and tips!

Now, I've told you. You shouldn't want to learn anything about your
engine, you shouldn't enjoy the feeling of a job done well, and you
certainly shouldn't have the ambition to do so. You should always take
it to a service person. And not just any service person, only one
personally picked by Harry.......

I'm worried/wondering why you had no water pump output at idle. My
outboard pees water even at idle.

Well, I'll tell you what...I sure had a big-assed smile on my face when
that water started coming out of the pee hole yesterday. Then, everything
else went just like the book said.

This morning I ordered a service manual. $89 for the damn thing. But, I
saved about that much with doing my own winterizing, so it's like a
free-bee.

Once it started peeing, it pee'd at idle fine. It just seemed to take a few
more than 700 rpm to get it started.

Actually, you don't know what you saved...and in fact you may have
caused some damage.

Good for you!
Now you'll know what type of 2 stroke oil to use in your 4 stroke outboard.

When some the blades of the impeller are broken off, you may only see
water from the telltale at higher RPM. If you are replacing the
impeller and any blades or pieces of blades are missing, you need to
find them! They are somewhere in the cooling passages, and sooner or
later will find a really bad place to plug things up. You can have a
blocked passage in the head, and the telltale will continue to assure
you that everything is fine - until suddenly, its not.

While all this is true, I don't suspect this has any bearing on the
topic of discussion.

I don't respond to Salty anyway. I know where his head's usually at. It
ain't a nice place.
