Default tow vehicle issues

Attaching the tow bar with hitch to my new Nissan Frontier was easy.
They even had a connector already for plugging in my 4 wire trailer
connector. It seemed great but I had no lights even after I checked
it. No power to the factory installed connector so none to the
trailer. OK, go buy a shop manual and schematic reveals something
called "tow relays", WTF? Go online and find that ohters have had
this issue. Apparently, you have to install some relays somewhere and
they are dealer items only. CRAP, I have a low opinion of dealers but
I decide to go to the local Nissan dealer (Kraft Nissan) with my
speech ready (ALL I want is to buy the fuc$#ng relays). Instead, the
parts guy was very helpful. Yes, I did have to buy a $70 relay kit
consisting of a very complicated wiring harness, 3 relays, a trailer
connector and mounting hardware AND I had to remove the passenger side
kick panel to install this stuff, BUT, It works.
Is'pose the days of just running some wires to the tail lights are
gone and I have no idea of why this system is so complicated. At
least it works.........until it stops working and someone has to
diagnose it.

On the little Ford Ranger I leased in 2006, I just went to U-Haul and had a
hitch installed for $200.00
All the wiring for lights was already there and ready for use.

My 75 volvo had the tapped holes ready for the hitch reciever. Already
wired. Took less than ten minutes to install.

Sounds like a Pinto but the holes were drilled and tapped on the front for
a tow bar.
