In the past I have seeked the wisdom of this forum with great success. I am
once again seeking some direction. I purchased a 1990 Maxum 19 ft last
year. The only thing I dislike about the boat is the seating. It has the
folddown seats on both sides. I do not mind the seats anywhere except at
the wheel. It is an extremly uncomfortable seat. I continually had to prop
cushions under me to see. I need to change this while she is in storage.
Where do I go to find ideas? Maybe removing the seat and installing a
captain chair on a pedestal? Looking for ideas, where and how tos.

Thanks all!!

Tim

If you have access to the underside of the deck (floor) to which the
current seats are attached, your task is easy. If not, you are going to
have to use marine moly bolts to hold a pedestal to the floor. The deck
might be wood or fiberglass covered wood. You need to seal the holes you
leave behind with epoxy and seal the edges of the holes you create with
expoxy. Beyond that, you need to know the height of the seat that works
for you. If you have a good boat supply store near you, go visit it with
measurements in mind.

Another Tim, oh no!

What kind of boat is it? Can you find a picture somewhere and give us the
link?

West Marine has got many different kinds of seats, but not knowing what
you've got makes a suggestion difficult. I've got a Key West center console
with what Key West calls a "Flip flop cooler seat with back rest."

We love it. And, I like standing so it works well. The cooler underneath
has a cushion and makes a great seat/storage area.

Oh yeeeessss!

Those seats you have are quite common in the runabouts. one thing you
can do is remove the seat from the box it sits on and raise them from
there, OR cover the box, make it sturdy and use it for a pedistal and
put about any seat you want on it. If you're going to remove the seat
entirely and instal "captains chairs" you may have some problems with
working under the decking as suggested.

A friend of mine took the rotten seats off the boxes and went to the
local salvage yard and got some import bucket seats for about $10. or
$15.00. complete with sliding adjusters. He mounted them on top of the
boxes after he'd reinforced them, and they work fairly well. he was
going to make them rotatable, but didn't have time last year. i don't'
know if he's working on them for this coming season or not.

i ought to find out.

The above links are the seat configuration currently. There isn't a salvage
yard for hundreds of miles from here or I would be there!!

So I guess the question now is....Remove the "box" install pedestal...or
pedestal on top of the box after reinforcement.

And where to I search for the pedestal and seat?

Thanks again!!

You seem to have a big problem with queers man. They are just people
like the rest of us, did you have a problem with one or something? I
mean, I won't stoop to calling names as you do, but it must have been
pretty bad...

Well, for the fun of it, you might remove the seats from their boxes,a
nd get an over all view of the situation. Then if you decide to go
with captain seats, you can look at all kinds of online places.
Here's a place that specilized in boat seats:

http://www.boatingseats.com/

Overtons:

http://www.overtons.com/modperl/prod...=browse&aID=11

Iboats.com

http://www.iboats.com/Boat_Seats_Pon...view_id.473663

Theres' all kinds of places. even Ebay.

We oughta cut him some slack. He must have been sodomized as a young child
(or more recently). Slammy clearly has issues.
