Chief Justice John Roberts is a man who has made very few public
missteps in his life -- but he appears to have made one when swearing
in Barack Obama. Roberts slightly flubbed the oath, which then tripped
up Obama.

The oath is contained in the Constitution: "I do solemnly swear (or
affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the
United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect
and defend the Constitution of the United States."

But when Roberts swore in Obama, he flipped some of the words, saying:
"I will execute the office of president to the United States
faithfully."

You caught that too, huh?
Proves both men are really mere mortals.

The point is that he doesn't need a prompter. I expect he practiced
the lines prior to the inauguration but Roberts mangled it in a way
that he had a hard time reconciling.

I had the same reaction as I was listening to Roberts. What did he
say? He mangled it a second time and Obama repeated the mangled
phrase from what I recall.

But a point for us old guys. The Justice administeriing the oath to Biden
did it flawlessly. And he is the oldest justice.

Old age and treachery - can't be beat. :)

I was wondering when someone was going to point that out. Obama knew
the oath, knew that Roberts screwed it up, and stopped so Roberts could
correct it. It would have looked much worse on TV if Roberts said one
thing, and Obama said another.

Awwwwwww, low brow, poor sports circle jerk... But don't worry, Harry
can pretend he just got off Air Force 1 in a while.. I am sure his
stories will be just awesome...

Can't wait to hear his lies, Scotty! Did you notice that yesterday
AFTER I said something about his alleged soirees at union events that
only THEN did he say something about his wife finally having enough
clothes on to keep warm, so they are off, somewhere around 9 am? Well,
according to reports on TV, at 9 am you couldn't get anywhere near any
of the activities!!!! I can't wait to hear the lie about how he pulled
that off, probably by a union rep chartering a helicopter, landed on
Harry's vast expanse of lawn, picked them up and planted them on a
rooftop somewhere......

Yeah...become more conservative. That's the ticket...to oblivion.

Time will tell. Obama is a new, fresh face to the world and can offer
new
approaches to problem solving. If he succeeds, he's a hero and we owe
him
a world of thanks. However:

Another major terrorist attack on the US will bring some hard core
conservative thinking back in the picture (and in office) very quickly.

I'm sure there are some who are trying to arrange just that for just
that purpose.

I am sorry. I just don't buy into that sort of stuff. Not enough tin hats
to go around.

Did you see Charlie Wilson's war?

Read about it. Has it come out yet?

Tom Hanks produced and lead role. Brilliant and true. Both Charlie
Wilson and the rich Texas-based socialite gave it high marks for
accuracy.

Fascinating insight into how, sometimes, things get done.

I loved the interviews with the real Charlie and texas socialite. Read
a bunch of material on both after seeing the film. Mike Nichols, Tom
Hanks - that's a hell of a team.

Almost forgot, written for film by Aaron Sorkin. Didn't know it
untill the credits but made total sense. Loved the dialogue.
