This was taken in New South Wales, Australia and around midnight under
natural moonlight.

The light bobbing along the fence line was Rob playing with an led

The direction is dead on in both directions.

The auto is facing north; so the fence runs north-south. At midnight, the
full moon is on the meridian, or very close to it; in New South Wales, the
moon is to the north, shadows are cast to the south. That's about as close
as I can get.

The star trails are making circles about due south (Oz being south of
the equator) meaning that due south is just over the rightmost lawn
chair so the fence runs east west.

Not really. Is on the bottom of the world so everything is reversed. I
think all those white streaks in the sky are not stars but stuff that has
lost it's grip on earth and are falling off this world.

I just happen to be an amateur astronomer so knew all bout star
trails. It is strange not to see the north star, Polaris.
