This past weekend I spent Saturday with my 12 yr old daughter looking
for caves in the woods near the shores of Lake Seminole in N. FL at the extreme SW area of GA and extreme SE part of AL. From the high banks, it is an attractive lake being formed by damming the Apalachicola River just below the intersection of the Flint and Chattahoochee rivers. It looked ideal for a medium sized sailboat and the locks from the lake into the river make it even more interesting for the Tolman if I cruise up the river. So, I talked to the ranger at the Corps of Engineers park (nice camping area) who told me that there are many trees just under water. Nobody sails and no faster power boats, just slower bass boats and some slow moving houseboats. If the lake was drained, could the trees be harvested (waterlogged wood seems to fetch a good price) without seriously damaging the fishing? Oddly, I saw NO trees at all in the water, just a vast expanse of open water, FRESH water. |
