Chrysler is as good as gone. CAW/UAW are taking a stand with not
enough meaningful concessions and wasting time. Fiat would be better
off to import and start intrinsic growth and forget Chrysler. And
then there are suppliers... Cerberus no doubt wants some cash
too.... Chrysler is a deer looking at a train and on the tracks...
14 days left.

Fiat wants to re-introduce their cars in the US which is really the
only reason for getting a piece of Chrysler. Gives them an instant
dealership base.
In three weeks all of the Chrysler dealerships will be used car lots.

One can hope for some nice juicy layoffs at your place of work that
include you. The experience will do you good, as will a spate of
long-term unemployment. You might emerge as a human being.

Uh oh. Is bar in the auto industry?

No. Or at least I don't think so.

This is at 66,000 kilometers...about 40 k miles.

I may be mistaken, but I think your '07 Charger has front end components
that are shared with some Mercedes models. Sounds a little fishy to
me. Must have been a rough 40k miles.

They've threatened to pull out of Canada if they don't " get what they
want".Fiat has most likely looked at the Management (as ****ty as it
is ) and are nervous. The CAW has said if that happens, they'll never
sell another car in Canada.
Besides, the Canadian employees do more work, with less injury....

---------------------------

You spinmiesters crack me up. Go read the announcement by Fiat.
It specifically states that they want the UAW and CAW to get in line
with the pay and benefit packages typical of Toyota and Honda. It also
states that the strongest opposition to the Fiat requirements are
coming from the CAW. So far, the CAW won't budge. Pretty soon they
will be out of a job.

Chrysler doesn't pay it's tax bills either. They owe Canada $500,000
from 2002 or something like that. Real welchers. Shut them down, we
don't need that kind of leach business model in Canada. Plus, from what
friends tell me they still don't know how to make a automatic
transmission. Ya, I bought 2 in the past and learned the hard way.

May tag says what I think of GM & Chrysler.

Sounds like the last Chrysler hasn't learned much since I bought a 1989
Caravan. Last Chrysler/Dodge crap I owned.

Sounds like a local dealer hitting up the factory for unneccesary
repairs in lean times.

Could be. A local Chrysler dealer I pass by had lots of vehciles last year,
but lately, not much new on the lot. Maybe they don't want to be stuck with
inventory in Canada for the $500M past due tax bill?

But opening new without the bagage, severance etc... would be better for
brand image at this point.

Bought a new Grand Cherokee with the 6 cyl in 1995 that I sold to a
family member last year, still running strong. Awesome in winter
where snow lasts for months. Dropped a transmission at around 50K
miles but it was still under warranty.

Not saying I'd buy another but it wasn't a horrible experience.

I am not sure that Jeep really qualifies as a MoPar designed product. The
Jeep line was purchased by MoPar from American Motors (remember the
"Rambler"?)

But, during the 50's and 60's, MoPar built some tanks of cars. They
weren't exactly refined when compared to GM and even some Ford products but
they were tough as hell. The legendary A727 transmission introduced in the
early 60's is still considered to be one of the best automatic transmissions
ever designed and built. They were (are) virtually bullet proof and are
just as happy in a high performance muscle car as they are in a mild
mannered family sedan. The '69 "General Lee" Dodge Charger I had for a
while had a 727 transmission mated to a high output 440 ci engine. Both
the engine and transmission were slightly modified. The engine had high
compression pistons, a mild cam and was electronically tweaked for high
horsepower. The only modification made to the transmission was the
addition of a shift kit. I never really pushed the car to it's potential,
but it had brute power, as long as you were going in a straight line.

It's a bit ironic that the more modern MoPar transmissions used in the
Caravan and in the early Ram trucks didn't share the same robust design and
reputation.

Car had 56000 kilometers on it at 1.5 years of service. It was an
Enterprise long term rental to a Pratt & Whitney employee who travelled back
& forth between Halifax & Montreal. Car listed at $28k new here, but my
son (me) paid $15.3K.
I wanted him to get a new Honda Civic or a Toyota Corolla.....but who
listens to the old man.

Who knows. Like someone said, it could be the dealership trying to get
some work or it could indeed be prematurely failed tie rods.

My '65 VW bus is in the shop right now for the same thing. :-)
