![]() "Mike Slater" wrote in message news:4Ov1m.163616$DP1.33470@attbi_s22... The PWC newsgroup is almost non-existent so I hope I can discuss this here. I own two, four-stroke, 2006 Yamaha vx110 sport pwc waverunners. Before I started them up at the beginning of the season I checked the oil level and they both "appeared" to be two quarts low of engine oil. They were both sitting perfectly level and had not been started since last season. This startled me but I added two quarts to each one so it lined up right on the full line of the dipstick. Then I ran them both and checked the oil afterwards and now they both appear to be two quarts overfilled, and I have to suck 4 quarts of nice clean oil out of them. I just want someone to explain where the oil was hiding when I first checked them??? Makes me think the best time to check the oil is a minute or two after engine shutdown. Thanks Mike, That is the MR-1 engine with the dry sump... correct? If so your first mistake was checking the oil when the engines were cold. Your second was adding oil. ;-) I have the same engines in my AR230 ('06). The dry sump is a pain because the only way to check the oil is when the engines are warm, and right after you turn it off. Remove the excess oil, and check your air cleaner. One of the bad things that can happen when the sump is overfilled, is that oil will back up into the aircleaner rendering it useless and possible dangerous. Those suckers are expensive to replace as well. About $80 if I recall correctly. I hope this helps. --Mike |
