I was talking to my wife about pizza a couple times.
Wanted to try out that place on Higgins you put me onto.
Since she's a cook, she's talked me out of it so far, but it'll
happen.
Anyway, she reminded me of a Pizza Hut pizza we got in Punta Gorda
last year. And I remembered another time I took the kids to a Pizza
Hut down there, somewhere on the west coast.
Wouldn't think of entering one up here, but they were real good pizzas
for Florida, and the mozz was good.
Maybe they ship it from Chicago.
Let me know what you think about that.

I've only been in a Pizza Hut a couple of times since I moved here in 1992.
Couple of guys I worked with talked me into going there for the buffet
lunch. The only type I kinda liked was the dessert pizza with cinnamon and
apples pieces.

Maybe sometime I'll give them another chance down here but I don't hold out
too much hope.

You *have* to keep bringing this up, Vic?

Have you ever been to Barnaby's?

http://www.barnabys1.com/

Lou Malnatis and Giordanos will ship. I don't know of any others. I
have some on the way right now!

That reminds me of the Original Pancake House on NW highway in Park
Ridge. "Famous Apple Pancakes." Really more of a pie.
Ever go there? I managed it part-time in '92 or '93 as a 2nd job when
I needed the cash.
Never even heard of them until I answered a want ad.
Good stuff there. Bacon to die for and used only butter as shortening
for anything. High quality ingredients, and careful prep.
I never even tried the apple pancakes, but they looked good.
Bought a couple of those crank handle apple peelers from the owner
for the kids. Still around here somewhere. Made in U.S.A.

Sometimes all we have is hope.
Of course some still live up here, and don't worry about getting a
good pizza. (-:

Been to all those. Barnaby's had a 1/2 lb char-broiled Burger I'd get
when I went there, which was maybe once a month some years.
Never tried their pizza.
Haven't been for some years, since they closed the one on Waukegan
road.
Have to find a $25 Gift Cert for Giordano's a daughter gave me last
Christmas. She worked at the Higgins location in Rosemont when she
was home from school.
There's 2 Giordanos close by, one in Morton Grove and one in Niles.
Under 10 minutes to either one.
I mentioned before my wife is a cook, and she's constantly holding me
back from gorging on pizza.
Not complaining, mind you. Just wish she'd go away for awhile.

Yes, I have eaten at the Original Pancake House in Park Ridge. Not since I
left the area in '92 though.

Damn you guys.

The ONLY good pizza in Chicago comes from mom and pop operations, thin
crust. :-)

Thanks, Tim. Bookmarked that in my Pizza & Beer folder.
It'll come in handy.
You know, I looked at the menu for a Pizanos nearby in your link.
Their largest thin crust is a 14". A cheese & sausage is $17.40.
http://www.pizanoschicago.com/menus.html
At the Dino's that Duck gave me an 18" cheese and sausage is $17.75.
http://www.dinosonhiggins.com/
I've forgotten my measurement of circles, but an 18" is about twice
the acreage of a 14".
Guess where I'm going?
Another thing, I never found a relationship between the price of a
pizza and how much I liked it.
This is where I bought more pizzas than anywhere.
http://www.lavillabanquets.com/defau...s/page0003.htm
You can't read that, but I think the 18" cheese and sausage is still
$12.75, like it was 10 years ago. And they toss in a quart of Pepsi.
I'll have to drop by there and see if the same guys are in the
kitchen.
They knew me well, because I'd pick up an 18" about once a week.
When I picked up my last ones, for everybody who was helping me move,
I told the head guy - forgot his name - this was it, I was moving.
He asked where and I told him, and he said don't worry, we'll deliver
to you. He new his pizza better than his geography.
They had a card stapled to their pizza boxes. Save 20 cards and get a
large pizza free.
Bet I got 6 or 7 free ones with the cards.
BTW, I paid 30 bucks for the worst pizza I ever tried to eat - in
Edwardsville one weekend we spent with my sister.
30 bucks for 14" because it was supposed to be the best pizza in
Southern Illinois. My ass.
Next time I talk to her I'll get the name for you.
Good place to avoid.

I had thin crust at Malnati's before it got big.
I recall it being good, but I was more interested in the girl that
wanted me to take her there.
That was in Lincolnwood, pretty close to Bones, one of those Melman
places. Good ribs.
But again, it was the same girl that wanted me to take her there.
One thing about Malnati's is we had to wait in line.
I hate that from Navy days, and normally turn around go elsewhere.
But she wanted to wait, I and wanted nookie.
It all worked out.
