My first flying instructor to me the two scariest words in aviation a " Watch this ". I'm on my toes when anybody, anywhere says that. Time to duck. --Vic I took the $25 flying lesson (that's what it cost way back then) and was interested in learning, until a buddy from the Michigan State Democratic Committee, with whom I worked on a campaign, died when his private plane crashed. Years later, I guess in the early 1980's, another friend, a printer who did all the forms printing for several clients, died when his biplane crashed into a highway bridge. That sorta did it for me. I really dislike flying, even commercial. I like the time savings to get to a distant location, but that's it. Everything about the "flying experience" these days, from booking a ticket to hoping your luggage made it, pretty much sucks. -- Whatever moral rules you have proposed, abide by them as they were laws, and as if you would be guilty of impiety by violating any of them, *unless* you are a conservative Republican office holder or minister. If that is your position in life, then anything goes. |

Everything about the "flying experience" these days, from booking a ticket to hoping your luggage made it, pretty much sucks. Flew often enough (passenger) when I was young, including small stuff like Cessna and Norseman float planes in Canada. At some point - think it was coming into Glenview NAS in an old crate during a thunderstorm after a reserve trip to Pensacola - I decided I won't fly any more. 1975 I think. Simple decision. Told my employers up front. Couple times I drove to Buffalo for training. No big deal, as I like road trips and made some money on the mileage reimbursement. Only exception was in '95 when a bigshot selected me represent the office at a Lake Tahoe event. Too far to drive on relatively short notice, and I decided to accept it as the honor it was and not make waves. Uneventful flights. Won't fly again though. No hurry, and if I decide to go to Europe or Australia, boat berths are available and waiting for me. --Vic |
