Moms Stage 'Nurse-In' At Chick-Fil-A
Restaurant POSTED: Friday, August 14, 2009 UPDATED: 2:36 pm EDT August 14, 2009 ORLANDO, Fla. -- More than 30 breastfeeding women descended on a local Chick-Fil-A restaurant Friday afternoon. VIDEO: Nurse-In SURVEY: What Do You Think? IMAGES: Other Strange Stories They were trying to make a point the point that it's OK to breastfeed in public. The "Nurse-In," as it is being dubbed, was organized by a mother who felt she was discriminated against at the restaurant. She was breastfeeding her child when a restaurant employee told her to cover up. The employee even allegedly handed her a towel to do it. "Her right to do that was violated and I'm here to show my support, and we're breastfeeding. We'd like to see more people breastfeeding in public. It should be normal," mother Alejandra Sarmiento said. She tried to talk to the manager, the general manager and even the chain's corporate office with no real satisfaction, so she has organized a group of mothers to go to the chain and breastfeed together Friday. The woman said she sent a letter to Chik-Fil-A's corporate office, but received no response. The law in Florida allows women to breastfeed wherever they need to. The law says: "A mother may breastfeed her baby in any location, public or private, where the mother is otherwise authorized to be, irrespective of whether or not the nipple of the mother's breast is covered during or incidental to the breastfeeding." The restaurant said it is working to better educate the staff about public breastfeeding. The parent company is also considering door stickers to inform guests it is a "mom-friendly" place. - - - I favor any activities that set racks free and out in the open air. |

She should also organize a Breast Feed In there every Sunday too. That will teach 'em. |
