This is one big gnarly storm. Take a look at the latest satellite
imagery:

http://wwwghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/GOES/goeseasthurrwv.html

The surrounding cloud and weather structure stretch out close to a
thousand miles.

Weather buoy 41049 is still 170 nautical miles from the eye and
already it is reporting wind gusts to to 42.7 kts and wave heights of
22.6 feet.

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=41049

Right now it looks like Halifax, Nova Scotia has got a bulls eye
painted on it.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

Based on weather reports this evening (PDST), the storm that wrecked
all the havoc in the Midwest this week, is forcing Bill out to sea
thus sparing New England a direct hit.

May still have some high surf.

Apparently Don's too stupid to be the least little bit worried. Having
been in hurricanes before, I can honestly say that being worried enough
to take some steps to save your life and your belongings is the
intelligent and prudent thing to do.

Don't run too far. You want to make sure you can scurry home after the
storm to protect your palace from the looters. Got that rusty ol 22 ready?

Can you imagine when sailing in the Bahama area was new and how many
ships must have been lost not knowing what was comming at them.

What was that large Barefoot Cruises sailing vessel lost in the Gulf of Mexico
in a hurricane some years ago? There were some lawsuits where families of the
lost crew blamed the operator for putting to sea. Even when you know what's
coming at you it may not be enough to save you.

Would that be the big sailboat that put to sea in an effort to save
the ship. It got broken up, driven ashore by the high winds.

I'm not sure, but this might tell you something about them and their
company....
