Discussions with him had nothing to do with my not taking my Tolman from Miami to Bimini, a distance of 48 miles over the Gulf Stream. I consider this to be a perfectly reasonable trip with proper preparation. What kept me from doing it was looking at the charts. From Bimini to anywhere else in the Bahamas to get fuel is over 60 miles. Thus, it would make sense to go from FL to West End, a distance of 68 nm fisrt because then you have the entire Grand Bahama open to you. I have a friend who did the Lake Worth inlet to West End and back trip on a 2 cycle waverunner. My open water experience with the Tolman is not enough to try this anytime soon whereas my sailboat could do it. |
