Suisun Bay Sturgeon!
Finally! I made it down to my honey hole on Suisun Bay (above SF Bay
in Calif.) for the first time since April. I tried twice since my last visit in April and it was just too windy. (Typical summertime on the delta.) I stayed at Brannan Island State Park in the motorhome for two nights, and fished Suisun Tuesday and Wednesday. That's 100 miles of river cruising to and from Suisun in two days! Thursday was too windy to head to Suisun again, and we fished locally. I caught a feisty 46" sturgeon the first day at Suisun. He took my nasty, old lamprey eel that had been if the freezer for six months. That stuff is incredible. He hit near the start of the incoming tide. I released him to fight another day; I have two tags left and want to keep larger fish. It was a grand trip. The whole story and photos at www.FishWisher.com Dale |

What do you do with the bigger sturgeon? Do you eat 'em. How do you fix 'em? |

Getting a little worried about you playing Merle all the time though. Maybe toss in a little George Jones, and a pinch of Clint Black. Fish might be full of Merle. --Vic |

Vic, Merle has company such as Dolly and George and other 70s
singers. (XM 13 & 10 when they're not yakking and doing interviews!) John, I rarely eat sturgeon as I don't like fish generally. However sturgeon is very, very mild. You can put some in a ziplock in the fridge for three days, open it and no odor at all. I give my keepers to folks who really enjoy fish. Some smoke 'em, some cook 'em other ways. The little I've eaten I just roll in cornmeal and fry. Dale www.FishWisher.com |

Sturgeon could be passed off as not a fish. Different texture, no bones, cartilege fish. Very good eating, and great smoked. I rarely keep one, as I think they are being hurt by the enviroment, etc. Plus we have a lot of Russians poaching them for the eggs. Been several busts the last couple years. Not big enough penalties to stop them. The caviar is going for above $100 a pound and they get a $5k fine. And they are caught with a couple hundred pounds of canned eggs. Russian Mafia is big in California. |
