I knew it was Enigma, and saw the documentary on how it was captured, but i couldn't believe that it's secrets were held classified for so many years. 50 I believe? I hardly watch television anymore; but, I do remember watching a documentary on the History Channel years ago on the Enigma machine and its capture. It's probably the same one. I think I first read about the Enigma in a John Toland book, back in High School - a long, long, time ago... The machine was reverse engineered by a mathematician in Dayton, OH and ones were constructed by a bunch of women under top secrecy in Building 31 of the National Cash Register Co. Years later I took classes in the same building, and did not find out about the Enigma development till years later. Great story. So NCR did other things besides cash registers and accounting machines in those days. |

I'm trying to recall if I had actually read about it in a John Toland history book or if it was something that was part of the material that we covered in electronic warfare training in MI. Maybe it was both. I remember seeing an old film on it's design and how it was used to send communiques, and that must have been during AIT. That was all such a long time ago, though, that it all becomes a bit of a blur. -- Posted via NewsDemon.com - Premium Uncensored Newsgroup Service -------http://www.NewsDemon.com------ Unlimited Access, Anonymous Accounts, Uncensored Broadband Access |
