Hello...

pardon me if I interupt the bickering, but i jsut thought I'd stop in
to make an actual boating post.

The worlds largest ocean liner ever built is now in Florida.

i think this 5400 passenger ship is larger than alot of islands. i
know it could hold my town and the one next to it.

http://www.oasisoftheseas.com/

I'm wondering. How big does big have to be?

anyhow. carry on.

The last cruise ship I would ever consider...

If you are flajim, herring, loogy, GC boater, johnson, topbassdog, rob,
or one of a half dozen others, you're wasting your time by trying to
*communicate* with me through rec.boats, because, well, you are among
the permanent members of my dumbfoch dumpster. As always, have a nice,
simple-minded day.

Did you see how many bow thrusters that behemoth has? Are all three
needed along with the azi-pods to keep it on a straight course when
traveling in a quartering wind let alone a full on wind off port or
starboard? Has anyone calculated the sail area of those slab sides?

The Disney Magic doesn't carry nearly as many passengers, and probably
has only half the fine restaurants. But at least it looks like a ship
should.

Does it have enough life boats to handle 5,400 passengers plus crew?
If so, where are they?
I don't think it's unsinkable (see "Titanic") So do they have that
many lifeboats?
just curious

I have no desire to go on some monster like that. But if I did, I'd
try probably spend the whole cruise in the engine room if I could. i
like that kind of stuff.

Yup, the lifeboats have a total capacity of 6,660. *Each* lifeboat has a
capacity of 372.

However, I'd have to say in an emergency, loading a 300+ lifeboat
could be a disaster in itself.

I'd expect multiple during each sailing.
