Very sad! I boat frequently with my 9 and 6 year olds... I can't even
imagine something like that happening to them.

A real shame.

Thirteen people on board seems very high for a 24' boat. I'd be
thinking the max would be around eight or so.

I hope some heads roll over this. I'm behind the CG 102%, and they've done
thousands of good things that never see the light of day. But someone
seriously messed up here, and needs to man up. And most importantly, it
needs NEVER to happen again. Accidents are accidents. Some accidents are
preventable. And some are so ridiculously preventable that it makes the
participants out for the foolish children they were during the incident.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I can't imagine having such a
senseless loss.

Sounds like the boat the CG was using is one of those quad engined 30' boat.
Why the hell would they go racing to a grounding. Most of SD is sand
bottom.

Depends. A 24' Carolina Skiff will carry 18....

The capacity of the boat that was *hit* by the USCG isn't the issue
here, as the accident was entirely the fault of the Coast Guard. Last
year, when we were there, we saw several USCG and many USN and marine
small vessels tearing ass their ways through the harbour and out to the
ocean. Boys with toys, showing off. In fact, I remember the wife of the
couple sitting next to us on the whale watching vessel saying, "Look,
the boys found the gas pedal!"

The Coasties were going far too fast for the conditions in which they
were operating their boat.

I don't think any boat should be aloud to go faster than my 36 foot
Zimmerman like lobsta' boat.

Lots of the passengers were small. 2-3 years old from what I read.
