![]() The lie of the year: Sarah Palin and the death panels By Brent Budowsky - 12/24/09 02:46 PM ET The Hill With Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) standing in triumph passing a healthcare bill in the Senate with every Republican united against him and the president doing nothing to help him, it is time to pass out our first Lie of the Year award. It involves the healthcare bill, and was told by former Mayor of Wasilla and quitting partial-term Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin! The lie, of course, was that the president and Democrats would create a death panel to kill old people under the healthcare bill. Granted, Palin was brilliantly taken to the woodshed by Katie Couric when she couldn't remember what newspapers she reads in the morning. But even assuming that Palin possesses a low level of factual knowledge and information, the death panel scam was a pure, total and unadulterated bald-faced lie. Nobody who could pass a literacy test could believe the president would kill old people with a death panel under the healthcare bill. So a standing ovation for Harry Reid for getting a bill through under impossible circumstances, and a chorus of boos for Sarah Palin for a performance that insulted the intelligence of every American. - - - Well, every intelligent American. As we have seen right here among the Palin supporters, there are plenty of unintelligent Americans. |
