Default 100K+ dead in Haiti?

How horrible... perhaps those of you on the east coast/south can organize
some sort of flotilla and help these poor people?

The American Red Cross is involved now. They always need help with
contributions when they help out in these large disasters. Your heart
has to go out to Haitians; one damned disaster after another.

How ironic, though, that the other side of the Island has all the nice
things, and the money.

That could be dangerous. Better to support govt or Red Cross agencies who
have the knowhow & contacts to do what's needed.

Charlie Crist, the governor of Florida, just announced his state has an
emergency relief site up for Haiti, and that search teams from south
Florida have been "federalized" to aid in the rescue effort.

Of course, he's a smart conservative who understands what needs to be
done when it counts. Mayor Nagin and ex-Governor Blanco could learn a
lot from this guy.

Unbelievable that the citizens of NO put Nagin back into office. NO,
corrupt to the end. At least the state threw Blanco out and put
Jindal, a conservative, in as Governor. Unlike Blanco I'll bet he'll
be able to ask for federal assistance in a proper, timely manner. Can
probably slap some sense into Nagin as well. Use those damn buses!

Well, isn't that interesting. Thanks for your absolutely useless
comment, jackieboy.

MSNBC is saying it might even be 5 times that (~500k).

Disasters in 3d world countries are always bad because they don't have
building codes or the resources to respond to disasters like this.
The building code issue should be a wake up call for the US too. We
have lots of fault lines in the US that are NOT in California. Most of
the US lives with a building code that assumes all loads are going to
be straight down. From a Florida perspective, it is why I am not
shocked when a little dust devil (they call a tornado) goes through
the Mid Atlantic states and rips their houses up. An earthquake that
would not even make a Californian look out the window, would destroy a
large number of buildings in Memphis and St Louis (The New Madrid
zone)

Oh gosh... I haven't been watching the reports. I hope we (as a people) can
help those poor people.
