Basically, I am pondering whether to sail single handed on the outside

Well, for one thing, the weather window is considerably broader inside
than outside.

That is not as true for sailboats as powerboats. Windy weather in
which most fishermen would not go out might be ideal for a sailboat.
Otherwise, most weather that would cause one to not go outside would
also cause you to stay put and not use the ICW. Can you imagine using
the ICW in fog, terrifying, I'd rather be offshore.

-----------
When it's 6' plus outside, you can still transit the ICW safely.

Weather like that is rare on the West Coast of Florida in the spring.
You get that kind of stuff a lot more on the Atlantic side.

I always thought the nasty chop in the Chesapeake bay was a whole lot
worse than anything you usually see in the Gulf. That is why you
regularly see 16' runabouts and 20' pontoon boats 8-10 miles offshore
around here.

Yeah, I guess it's a different animal on this side of FL.

If you two were the subjects of a vulcan mind meld, collectively you
might have an IQ in the normal range.

The Shenandoah National Park, where we hike the trails, has a
substantial population of black bears who are not at all adverse to
attacking people. There are also packs of feral dogs. The latter, I
think, are more dangerous. There have been reports of cougars, but I
don't know anyone who has actually seen one.

I don't know a property owner out there who hikes the mountain trails
unarmed. Many carry big caliber handguns.

Perhaps you two might. It would be delightful to read that the feral
dogs got to you both. Better that than a bear. I wouldn't want a bear to
eat your pustule-covered flesh and get sick.- Hide quoted text -

Gee, I've hiked hundreds of miles of the AT without carrying a weapon.
Most people that camp in more remote places where there are grizzlies
and such aren't such scared fat cowards either.

We spent a couple of days and nights last summer, exploring the North
Fork area and didn't see a single Harry type waving guns around.

You stupid fool. I also mentioned grizzly country. Using your idiotic
analogy, that would mean that I had "intimated" that you were hiking
there, too. In short, you're too fat and lazy to hike. You're a pig
that's so lazy you hire people to do the easiest of tasks, such as
maintenence for you. Too bad you never do anything that gives you a
sense of accomplishment unless it's a post in rec.boats.
