BTW, it's too bad you are so disappointed with your own ID here that you have to use my name. Tough guy, huh? Bruce, he's such a scaredy cat that he won't even go for a walk in the Virginia woods without a pistol strapped to his side. Well, I'll be honest and forthright...most of the time when I'm walking in the Virginia woods, I'm carrying also. A 7-iron is a handy thing to have when attacked by squirrels. -- John H If you two were the subjects of a vulcan mind meld, collectively you might have an IQ in the normal range. The Shenandoah National Park, where we hike the trails, has a substantial population of black bears who are not at all adverse to attacking people. There are also packs of feral dogs. The latter, I think, are more dangerous. There have been reports of cougars, but I don't know anyone who has actually seen one. I don't know a property owner out there who hikes the mountain trails unarmed. Many carry big caliber handguns. Perhaps you two might. It would be delightful to read that the feral dogs got to you both. Better that than a bear. I wouldn't want a bear to eat your pustule-covered flesh and get sick. That's a different story! Where we hiked, the "rule" was a .357 shot shell at the ready and real cartridges behind it. We never had any problems but the idea was to have a shot shell as your first shot for snakes. What's the latest on concealed carry in National Parks? It was and on and off deal. Last I read it was off. |

Most people that camp in more remote places where there are grizzlies and such aren't such scared fat cowards either. We spent a couple of days and nights last summer, exploring the North Fork area and didn't see a single Harry type waving guns around. You can't wear a gun on your belt unless you are a LEO. They may have had their weapons concealed. |

You have to be smart to post a You Tube video from an Indiana Jones movie and pretend to be the hero? D'oh. No, Brucie, I wasn't pretending to be the hero by referencing that clip. |

What's the latest on concealed carry in National Parks? It was and on and off deal. Last I read it was off. I never understood this. Most people who get bit by a snake didn't see it until they were bit or they were screwing with it. That is pretty much true of alligators too. If you actually had the kind of eye contact with a snake necessary to shoot it, the snake will probably be running away before you can get the shot off. The local hospital treats about 9 rattlesnake bites a year. Last year was the first one in a long time that did not include alcohol, Mines Rd. and guys trying to be Clint Eastwood in two mules for Sister Sara. |

Your "I won't be the guy with the sword. " statement was what I was referring to. You found some need to add that in order to define yourself and dismiss any other assumptions about your post. |
