Default How to cruise

With my sailboat at Tarpon Springs, she is about 250 miles from the
place on lake Okechobee where I want her hauled. So, how to get her
there. By ICW, it is no longer than by going on the outside to Fort
Myers but on the outside one can cruise at night cutting the overall
time down. However, I am not sure if sailing overnight is really
faster for a single handed sailor because he eventually has to stop
and sleep for a long time. (I am not sure my daughter will be with me
on this next leg of the trip).
Distance-wise, the ICW is the same as on the outside but you h

weird, rest of the post got cut off.

Basically, I am pondering whether to sail single handed on the outside
or to motor down the ICW during the day..

Well, for one thing, the weather window is considerably broader inside
than outside.

That is not as true for sailboats as powerboats. Windy weather in
which most fishermen would not go out might be ideal for a sailboat.
Otherwise, most weather that would cause one to not go outside would
also cause you to stay put and not use the ICW. Can you imagine using
the ICW in fog, terrifying, I'd rather be offshore.

Foggy days in Florida? In Spring, many. Southern breeze brings humid
air near cooler land=fog

I've done both. In good weather I prefer outside. There are too
many lift bridges inside, some on inconvenient schedules. There are
also some skinny water issues inside but you should be OK with that.

Inside has the advantage of having anchorages, marinas and restaurants
however.

Less frequent as you get south, and rarely past mid-morning.

On the inside in warmer weather, you have the occasional bow ornament
as a distraction whereas outside not much.
