I often wonder why Canada was so scared to break away from Great
Britain. Heck, it wasn't till 1967 that we became an independent country. I heard from a good friend who was a diplomat, that it was Britain that decided who forced Canada to separate and stand on their own two feet. |

I am sorry, make that 1982 In 1982 Canada patriated its constitution and entrenched within it the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, through the Constitution Act, 1982. By the Canada Act 1982, the British Parliament, acting at the request and with the consent of Canada, enacted the Constitution Act 1982, which established a procedure for the amendment of the Canadian constitution by the Canadian Parliament. |

Actually, he is right. 1867 Confederation of Canada was formed as part of the British North American Act. The Dominion of Canada. But still, Canada was a colony of the United Kingdom. In 1931 The Stature of Westminister gave Caanda much more autonomy. But still, king or Queen still had to rubber stamp everything. 1967 came and went, 95+% of Canadians would miss this. Lester still had to kiss royalties butt. 1967 is meaningless other thant 100 years a the Confederation of Canada anwering up to the UK as the Dominion of Canada. In 1982 as an act of British Parliament did let us go, guess they didn't want Turdeau's debt. But our legal severance from UK rule was 1982. This coincides with Canada getting it's first legitimate constitution. At that point we ceased to be the Dominion of Canada and the Country of Canada - legal and proper. Don't get me started on the biased BS consitution we have, It sucks compared to the US one. And the first three words tell it all, "We the people.." Frogs were too busy arguing who would be first. Now I know Canadians like to kick Americans over their knowledge of US history etc. But quite franky I believe Canadians to be at least as stupid. Often ore so as for 4-6 months a year we hibernate for 1/2 the day. Our first Prime minister was a drunk Called Sir John A MacDonald. Hand picked by the UK becuase he would sell out Canada for lots of scotch. Lots of pompus jack asses right up to today. Still a bunch of bickering bozos putting on a ruse. I know this isn't the CBC or elimentry school version, but I don't subscribe to worshiping of government. |

Before that Canada was an official colony of the British empire. Known as the Dominion of Canada... Too bad we didn't run off the French and joined the US. Or in at least oust Sir John A MacDonald drunk politician for hire, and gone independent. But couldn't find enough with spine I guess. Too many scots and french. |
