Still have to paint trim, install screen doors. Took just a tiny shim on one side to level left to right. Concrete floor was perfectly flat. Built-in locks lined up perfectly, as did the deadbolt. Interesting... looks like they could have been wider? Or was there some structural issue? You'd have thought I would have bought something decent instead of those cheap doors with the plastic window frames, huh? Nothing is cheap now-a-days, my stinky little spoofer. I went over last week to order 6 more replacement vinyl windows. They quoted me $2100.00 so I settled for 4 at $1400.00. I'll get the last two for the 1st floor at the winter booking special price. They are cheap as in the lower end of the price scale. You can tell by the window frames. Cheap plastic that in just a short while will yellow nicely. |

Well, you're right about pricing. But there are ways to save money and get something better than "more expensive." A pricier set of doors I looked at were fiberglass on the outside over an oak core. The oak showed on the inside. I saved a few hundred by buying fiberglass outside and inside, over a pine core. The fiberglass has a "permanent" finish, but can be painted if you want. The window panels are the same, and the frame on the inside that holds them in is wood, finished in the same color as the fiberglass. Not having to paint doors is a plus to me. I'll try to get the trim painted in the next few days, but we want to go out fishing on Sunday. One of our favorite spots in the Bay is producing pretty good results. |

It was pretty scary for me... Getting the old door out was much more difficult, involving j mold and a pneumatic cut-off saw and my fear factor. |

Interesting... looks like they could have been wider? Or was there some structural issue? The 60" opening could have been made wider when the house was built. I could have hired a good carpenter to make it wider during this latest project, but the expense would have been substantial. Such a project is way beyond my rudimentary carpentry skills. The sliders were a problem, since the widest opening they would allow was less than 30". But now, with these double opening doors, I can pull both open at the same time. Guess who sits on that little footstool... meow! When I built a new cape Cod style house back in 1975/76 I installed 5' wide sliding doors. It was plenty wide to pass through.... but some of the fat assed dopers might struggle a bit. I try my best not to discuss Fat Asses, and I wish you wouldn't, it just gets the dopers into a feeding frenzy talking about the photo I took at del Coronado -- I'm the real Harry, and I post from a Mac, as virtually everyone knows. If a post is attributed to me, and it isn't from a Mac, it's from an ID spoofer who hasn't the balls to post with his own ID. |

Probably the ugliest generic doors I have ever seen... Uh-huh. The doors probably cost more than all the furnishings in your one bathroom, motorcycle-in-the-kitchen house. They are just standard "french" doors. This, I understand, is the front door on your house: http://tinyurl.com/33nwevs |

Now, if any wacko doper shows up at your door, you'll have plenty of time to plan their speedy withdrawal. Sure, dummy. |
