What kind of boat does everyone own, if you could have your dream boat
what would it be? I own a '96 Doral 36 Express Cruiser. My dream boat would be a 50" Trawler. |

At the moment, it is my actual boat and my dream boat, although I am considering building either a wood rowing/sailing boat or maybe finishing off a fiberglass sailing hull that's up for sale. Right now, she's sitting up on the hard at a nearby marina, shrinkwrapped against the winter chills. |

I'm working on and outfitting for a long haul river cruise this summer. i also have a 1983 18' Chris Craft Scorpion 1ith a GM 3.0 mercruiser alpha 1. Which is a 'hook up 'n go' runabout which it's used at the local lake a lot. It''s a bit cramped ofr my frame, but a cool and fun (yet noisy) little boat. Also I bought a 30' Pontoon and trailer this summer. It was a "gotta have!' deal and the previous owner called me and asked if I'd sell it back to him. I'm considering it seeing that it's well just too big for my needs. Plus it has a 1977 Johnson Sea Horse v-4 85 HP that is a good engine, but they're a gas hog by todays standards (and economy!) and I'm getting leery of the future fuels and the increase in ethanol. Plus, I've scabbed, scrapped and disposed of various parts boats. |

Then we bought the 21' Proline with the cuddy. Yup, the salesman was right. Small cuddies are glorified enclosed bow boats, and yes, it's a good place for storage, and it keeps everything dry and out of the sun... but you! At 6'4" I couldn't sleep in the cuddie of my 23' Marquis if I had to. But I'm going to take advantage of the space and do some cool things with it. It seems there's lots of wasted space under the flooring and here about. After examining (thank you) the lay out of your camper trailer, I saw how the builders made the absolute maximum creature comforts in the space provided. My craftsman/carpenter buddy and I are working out details for the modding. |

If you were a student, you could not drive on the main campus road during class hours, but...you could ride your horse onto campus and tie it up to one of the hitching posts. A few students did that. I figured they were townies who lived nearby. Recently looked at a campus map on google, and was saddened to see that the house I lived in my junior and senior years was gone, along with the beer/burger joint next door to it. Hell, they paved over paradise and put up a parking garage. Literally. |

It was a joke about owning a Gunboat. By the Mideast I was thinking about Beirut. Ahh... ok. I always confuse the mideast with the midwest. lol Ohio is the mideast. Indiana is the midwest. Seriously, though, when I first went out to Kansas and saw some (not many) students checking their rifles and shotguns into the dorm's safe and I noticed hitching posts in front of several classroom buildings, I thought..."Hey, I'm out west." But any number of new friends corrected me by stating that Kansas, at least that part of it, was "midwest." The west did not begin, they claimed, until Colorado. I really think the divisions are the Smokey's and the Rocky's Whatever it is, it is. BTW, those hitching posts were used. Literally. So you attended Yale for your post-graduate degree(s)? |

It became a place to store rods, reels, etc. With the CC, I'm forced to put stuff away, where it belongs, rather than just put it in the cabin for the next time. John, you're right. Albin 33 trawler with a Caribe C12 dinghy. Bought a new 2 stroke 15 hp Yamaha for it. Perfect combo, even if the dinghy is a bit large. I'm perfectly happy with what I have. If I were going cruising and needed a sail boat, I'd buy something from a Beneteau Figero to a more comfortable Beneteau of about the same size. The Beneteau Figero was built as a single handed long distance boat. Here's a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_ExqQ80T5g The chute didn't work, but the guy deserves an award for trying. This is the boat that that Abby Sunderland should have bought. Could have avoided a lot of work and expense and had something she might have managed. |
