Going up the octave on the word 'free' isn't too bad, if the singer can do it well,

Yeah, but if one does it well,t hen many think they can do it well,
then it becomes a trend.

Then it begins to get stale.

Yup. They ought to leave that for the trumpets!

Like Paul Harvey used to say "Here, wash your ears out with this..."

And I appreciate this comment:

"That's the way it should be done in every national sports event. We
need to tell the big sports associations there's no need for MTV
stars. Just good voices without the antics."

Perhaps we need a different national anthem. The one we have is a
difficult "sing" under the best of circumstances. The words are ok, no
better than ok, but the music is just awful.

"America the Beautiful" is a far, far better song.

"This land is your land" no longer is applicable, since the corporations
now own about everything mentioned.

unfortunately, our national anthem, adapted from the old english
drinking song 'anacreon in heaven' was built to be unsingable, but
good for laughs in a bar. i've always like 'i vow to thee, my
country'. THAT would make a GREAT nation anthem

go he

The way things are going in this country, that old song "16 Tons" seems
more appropriate.

And yes, I trust you are proud to be a ... "progressive"

That's mostly correct

TEACHER: "Where was the Declaration of Independence signed?" STUDENT:
"At the bottom."

You have to blame someone, anyone other than yourself.
