![]() Just out of curiosity, if you shot pirates for real, coming at your boat with loaded weapons and you just brought out the 9mm, AK-47 or M16...wasted them in international waters. Can you be arrested and the charges stick? -- Socialism is a great ideal as long as someone else pays for it. And when no one is left to pay for it, they all can share nothing. |

Can you be arrested and the charges stick? the way the coast guard defines it is, they have jurisdication over an american flagged vessel anywhere in the world and over any vessel in US waters so if you are an american flagged vessel in international water, the coast guard will enforce US maritime law |

Why would you call anyone and who would you call? Well you would call the CG and report some dangerous floatsom in the water. You don't want anyone run into the floatsom. |

Why would you call anyone and who would you call? Precisely. Dead men tell no tales - just make sure the boat sinks. I believe blood stains are hard to remove. |

Can you be arrested and the charges stick? Piracy can only occur in International Waters. There are no modern laws that cover the problem. Dutch mariners are relying on 17th century law, which makes it sound like that was the last time folks had crap for brains. Bottom line is... since there are no guidelines... you'll probably get a pass for blowing the hell out of the aggressor... There are rules for dealing with pirates that are relevant today and written in the latter half of the 20th century. These rules stipulate that only war ships, or others so identified, can deal with pirates. One simple solution to that is blow them away and don't tell. But who would charge you even if they knew? Say you were a resident of Chicago. Could, would a Chicago court go for you for shooting pirates? -- Socialism is a great ideal as long as someone else pays for it.
