Yes, just paint over it after a bit of sanding to provide a rough surface for adhesion. Cheap vs expensive paint? Depends on how much fouling you get. If you are in Florida and do not haul except every 4 years, go for the expensive stuff. If you haul every year, got for the cheap stuff. |

He's right about some sanding to scuff the surface, and seeing you store the boat on the hard int he off seasons, I myself would be tempted to go with the less expensive. I'm no pro painter, but unless you apply a couple [or more] coats, I can't see why a gallon can't do a 30 ft'r. Are you planning on spraying or brushing it on? |

In fact, I have everything ![]() Most decent bottom paint is thick and heavy. Crawling under the boat and hand rolling is the only way to do it. IMHO |

IMHO Now that you mention it, I wonder if bottom paint would work with an entry level power roller... Hummmm. If so, it's the only way to paint. Roller in one hand, brush in the other. I use the power roller basically to lay the paint down, then "shape" it with the brush for interior and exterior paint. Haven't used it for boat paint yet... That's surprising, because from the looks of what is left of your paint job on your rowboat, I would have thought you opened the can of paint and threw the paint at the boat. |
