Default New Boat

I have just bought a 18' 1999 Javelin Renegade with a 1999 FICHT Evinrude
150 outboard motor. I have since heard bad stories about the Evinrude Ficht
motors. I not too much of a Envinrude man but I got a great deal and the
Boat sure look great.

1. What is the reliability of this engine.

2. What care should be taken (Like Gas, Oil, and Spark plug and how often
should be changed).

Any in put sure would be nice. Thanks

Biggest thing is to run good gas and oil. I would recommend 93 octane fuel
and OMC Ficht oil. You don't want any carbon buildup in that engine from
cheap oil that does not completely burn. You also want to be sure of no
predetination by using high octane fuel.

Plugs should be changed once a year unless you are really using it a lot.

Reliability of that engine is a hit or miss. As long as nothing goes wrong,
it will run fine. If however, the computer or a sensor go bad, you could
have a complete powerhead meltdown. The 93 octane will help to prevent
detonation in a lean or timing error condition. I know it is higher but the
20cents a gallon extra times 20 gallons a weekend or so is cheap insurance.
