I knew someone...
....got raptured:
In Partial Rapture, Credible Republican Candidates Vanish From Earth Gingrich Left Behind NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report) – In what some fundamentalist preachers are calling a “partial Rapture,” all credible candidates for the 2012 Republican nomination have mysteriously vanished from Earth. While this seemingly Biblical phenomenon has been developing over the past several months, the disappearance of Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels over the weekend confirmed what many apocalyptic prophets had been predicting: a partial Rapture was underway. For Rev. Harold Camping, the minister who made headlines by predicting that the entire world would end on May 21, the partial Rapture offered some measure of vindication, he said. “The world really did end, Republican-wise, when Daniels dropped out of the race of May 22,” he said. “So I was only off by one day.” According to Camping’s prophecy, Republicans with a shot of winning the White House have completely vanished from the face of the Earth while a series of surefire losers have been “left behind,” including Herman Cain, the former chairman of the Godfather’s Pizza chain, who announced his candidacy – significantly, Camping notes – “on May 21.” As for the Biblical prophecy that those left behind after the Rapture faced “five months of Hell on Earth, Camping said, “That’s a pretty clear reference to what Newt Gingrich has in store.” |

Doubtful. Huck is the smartest of all the right-wing extremists who want or wanted the presidency. I think he realized a right-wing extremist was not going to be elected in 2012. Besides, as has been noted, he's making boatloads of money now. Tim Pawlenty is announcing right now. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Huckabee isn't a viable candidate. If he did return, it would be an open question about his ability to make decisions and his "listening" to God stuff. Pawlenty is, I suppose, viable. I doubt he's going to get enough traction among the extreme right to get the nod. |

I doubt he's going to get enough traction among the extreme right to get the nod. Virtually all the enthusiasm in the GOP is contained within its believers on the far-far-right. Fortunately for America, their favored candidates are so far right they are unelectable and, as you point out, the less-crzy candidates are not going to get a lot of traction among those who control the GOP. After 2012, the demographics really suck for the GOP. I agree. Despite my left-leaning politics (sorry for lack of spoiler alert), I think we need a strong second party (perhaps a viable third party). Both (all) parties need to have some things in common for this democracy to continue to work. They need to value the common good over greed and profit, yet value business and the entrepreneurial spirit. They need to take the long view for the nation's best interest vs. the short political view for instant gratification when given a choice, including funding healthcare for all, protecting the environment, and individual rights. They need to value and support our military, but keep in mind and insist that the military defer to civilian leadership. They need to remove hate and religious intolerance from the national dialog. They need to work together, along the lines of the loyal opposition model. |
